Teacher Privileges

Teacher Privileges

Blog Update, June 15, 2015 - My Music Staff
Hello Everyone,

This week’s updates consist of a few changes to non-admin teacher privilege options for multi-teacher studios as well as a handful of other useful changes to My Music Staff.

Here’s what’s new and improved this week:

  • If you’re using a custom domain name with My Music Staff, you can now supply your own ReCaptcha API keys. You only need this if you’re using a custom domain name with your My Music Staff account and you’re getting a lot of junk/spam submissions.
  • When you move files around in the “Download Library“, the destination files can now be optionally overwritten.
  • We fixed the Student List page so that teacher names and lesson prices won’t wrap. This makes it easier to view these items row by row in multi-teacher studios.
  • We’ve added a new button to the “Invoices” tab that allows you to enter a payment directly from there. The button works exactly the same as if you were to click the “Add Payment” button, but it will automatically select the family (and pre-fill the payment amount to match the invoice) for convenience.
  • We updated the “Logout” icon on both the teacher and student portals.

The following changes affect multi-teacher studios only:

  • Event Categories can no longer be edited by teachers who aren’t able to manage the schedules of other teachers (calendar admin).
  • Non-admin teachers can no longer edit student contact information.
  • There’s a new option to allow you to hide the student address/phone number in the teacher portal from non-admin teachers.
  • Non-admin teachers can no longer change their default lesson price.

We hope you find this week’s update, fixes and improvements useful.

  1. I’m wondering if the following features could be added to the multi-teacher studios:
A way to create more customized new student registration forms, specifically with the option to make fields required, to add fields of different kinds (similar to Google forms), and to create a check box stating they’ve read the lesson policies.

    • Hello Tiffany,

Thanks for the comment. Yes, the ability to create custom registration forms is a feature that is on our “to do” list. Stay tuned to our weekly updates.

      Thanks,
      Keith

  2. I just began using mymusicstaff and I absolutely love it. Thank you for creating it and continuing to tweak it!
I have one question – perhaps some other studios are in the same situation. I run a studio and we currently have 5 teachers on staff. One of our teachers is already using mymusicstaff for his personal studio which he runs out of his home. We’re hoping to get everyone on our system to have one group calendar for our studio. Will we have to add him to ours for the extra $4 per month even though he has his own account? Please advise on what to do. Thanks! 🙂

    • Hi Joanna, the best way to handle this varies on a case by case basis.

Generally, if this teacher is working part time for you, and part time on his/her own, then they’ll probably need two My Music Staff accounts to keep these businesses separate. (Otherwise the teacher’s finances get tangled up with your studio’s and you don’t want that.)

If the teacher was using My Music Staff to manage his/her schedule for your studio, then it makes sense to bring that teacher into studio account entirely.

If you’re still unsure, send us an email at support@mymusicstaff.com (or give us a call) and we’ll help you figure out the best way to proceed.

  3. This software has just been too great – i will keep recommending it to everyone.
One question – Can you prevent teachers from seeing the studio income and expenses (finance part of the studio) and limit only to Admin?

    • Hello Emmanuel,

Yes, you can limit this by deselecting the appropriate privileges found on the “Teacher Details” page. If you’re still unsure, send us an email at support@mymusicstaff.com (or give us a call) and we’ll help you out.

      Thanks.
